Coastal Community Preparedness Facing Earthquake and Tsunami Disaster Threats (Study in Nagari Tiku Selatan, Tanjung Mutiara District, Agam Regency)

Abstract

In the context of Indonesian society, disaster risk management is very important, because Indonesia is a region that is very prone to natural disasters. The preparedness of coastal communities to face the threat of earthquake and tsunami disasters is not only aimed at the level of preparedness but also for the ability of household members along the coast to face the threat of earthquakes and tsunamis. Citizens are not only at risk from man-made risks but also at risk from natural events, namely climate change and natural disasters. The purpose of this study is to measure community knowledge and attitudes towards earthquake and tsunami disasters, identify family policies for earthquake and tsunami disaster preparedness, identify family emergency response plans for earthquake and tsunami disasters, identify community disaster warning systems and know the mobilization of sources. resources for earthquake and tsunami disaster preparedness In this study, the approach used is to use a combination of concurrent embedded models (unbalanced mix of quantitative and qualitative). Informants were selected using purposive sampling technique and by systematic random sampling method. In data collection, survey techniques, involved observation, and in-depth interviews were used. The theory used is structuration pioneered by Anthony Giddens focusing on the duality relationship between agent and structure. The results showed that the knowledge and attitudes of the Nagari Tiku Selatan coastal community towards the threat of earthquake and tsunami disasters, namely conducting disaster education such as socializing the interior of an earthquake safe house, simulating early warning systems, simulating earthquakes and tsunamis, disseminating disaster preparedness bags, and providing motivation for anticipating disaster. Community policy for earthquake and tsunami disaster preparedness in Nagari Tiku Selatan is to apply the sister village concept and practice earthquake safe house interiors. The emergency response plan for the Nagari Tiku Selatan coastal community against the threat of earthquakes and tsunamis is to provide first aid kits and essential medicines for family first aid, periodically repairing evacuation routes, and providing disaster preparedness bags. An earthquake and tsunami disaster warning system for coastal communities in Nagari Tiku Selatan, which provides a source of disaster warning information, and participates in early warning system simulations. Mobilization of resources for earthquake and tsunami disaster preparedness in Nagari Tiku Selatan, namely by providing disaster preparedness funds, and having disaster preparedness savings. The community preparedness assessment shows that the preparedness of coastal communities in areas prone to earthquakes and tsunamis in Nagari Tiku Selatan are quite prepared.
