ABSTRACT OWNER’S ROLE IN MAKING A SIMPLE HOUSE WITH EARTHQUAKE RESISTANCE IN PADANG CITY According to the Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) Padang City, on the September 30 2009 earthquake, 249,833 houses were damaged. Among these numbers, the largest recorded were simple non-engineered houses, namely houses built by the community traditionally with simple construction methods and without the touch of construction technology as well as structural analysis with designs capable of producing earthquake-resistant buildings. Then with the increase in earthquake vulnerability in the city of Padang based on the earthquake zoning map published by the Ministry of PUPR, community preparedness is increasingly being demanded to ensure that houses built are in accordance with the concept of earthquake resistant houses to be safer and minimize the risk of casualties and losses due to earthquakes. Basically, what has a big role in the realization of the concept of a simple earthquake resistant house is the community itself as the owner of the house. The purpose of this study is to determine the owner’s understanding of the concept of earthquake resistant houses and their role in applying this concept to the implementation of simple house construction in the city of Padang. In order to achieve this goal, the method used is the questionnaire method with the question indicators compiled from a pocket book published by the PUPR Office of West Sumatra. Then from the research it is known that the masons’ perception of the concept of earthquake resistant houses is very good, with a value of 93.77%.
