Reconstruction Problems After the 2009 Earthquake Disaster in West Sumatra

Abstract

The earthquake that occurred in West Sumatra on September 30, 2009 with a magnitude of 7.6 on the Richter scale killed 1,195 people and damaged infrastructure in 12 regencies / cities in West Sumatra. One year after the disaster, a post-disaster reconstruction process was carried out in West Sumatra. The purpose of this study was to determine the problems that occurred in the post-disaster reconstruction process in 2009 in West Sumatra by interviewing several sources who acted as organizers of the reconstruction process. Problems obtained from the interview results were unclear program sustainability, funds that were considered late and insufficient, data that was not suitable in the field, facilitators who were not thorough and inadequate, and those from the community who were considered to be less cooperative in the reconstruction process. The improvement of the post-disaster reconstruction process is very much needed so that there are no more problems that occur during the post-disaster reconstruction process in the future.
